In your daily life how do you make a difference? The Power of One, totally makes a difference…
The Power of One can be very powerful indeed mate! We have the power to influence, the power to mobilize, and the power to create!
One of our assistant managers Sacha Bartley was quick to react to a text she’d received last weekend about the Christchurch victims. Having family and friends living in the surrounding traumatic affected areas. Within 2hrs she was on it to organize a relief fund drive within our 3 restaurants (Yellowfin & Sage) to send over to the survivors who are struggling to find proper electricity, running water and shelter, basic human needs.
STILL they are experiencing massive after shocks,
“Aftershocks continue to rock Christchurch today. The last was at 12.42pm measuring 3.4 at a depth of 2km. It was recorded 10km south-west of Christchurch. It followed a magnitude 2.9 aftershock just 26 minutes earlier, 10km south of Christchurch”. NZ HERALD
Sacha was able to organize the staff and raise over $1200.00 AU to donate after a weekend of going around and collecting donations, asking the waitresses to donate their tips, and also asking the owner if he could pitch in a percentage of sales.
Last night we were having a chat and she was jokingly telling me that she started the dance floor the other night and at times it was just her and a mate dancing. I know to some people that may be a bit nerving, like no one EVER wants to be the first on the dance floor. Except maybe me, but that’s just because I love being the center of attention. But I digress…
I think there are a lot of people out there that are afraid to be the “first in” or the first to start the dance floor. But once someone does, it makes a difference in everyone elses life. Literally and figuratively. If no one “starts the dance floor” then it kills the vibe, and people are less likely to enjoy themselves. Figuratively, whether you have liquid courage or not, being able to be the first to do something will indirectly affect the others around you.
So never be afraid to start the dance floor, that smile on someone else’s face could be because of you, which in turn should make you smile. Props to Sachhhhy for having the courage to make a difference.
Nothing breaks the ice like the sprinkler or a moonwalk…seriously.
